Some years ago when we lived in DC
we would use Sundays to go on adventure hikes to the unique places in the
city. One hike took us to the Mosque on Massachusetts Avenue. The people there
could not have been more welcoming and kind to us. They were absolutely
delighted that we dropped by. Feeling welcomed we stayed for a service. They apologized,
profusely, for asking Mary to wear something over her head and for having to attend
the service in the woman’s “chapel”…I’m not using the right word I know….we
didn’t mind at all, having gone to parochial schools at a time when the girls
wore white linen over their heads and were separated from boys in most things.
If you are in the DC area and haven’t visited, give it a try the Mosque is absolutely
stunning inside.
