The Iceman Cometh

Eugene O’Neill delayed taking The Iceman Cometh to Broadway for 7 years (fearing that it would be rejected) before finally relenting and opening the production on 9 Oct. 1946. 22-year-old Marlon Brando was offered the part of Don Parritt, but turned it down as he thought the play was “ineptly written and poorly constructed.”

The Broadway production was a success and ran for 136 performances.
