If you follow my blog, you know that
I am outraged at the jailing of Nobel Peace Prize laureate Dr. Liu Xiaobo.
In February of 2016, the US Senate
unanimously passed my bill to rename the street in front of the Chinese embassy
in Washington after Dr. Liu Xiaobo, the Nobel Peace Prize laureate who has been
imprisoned for eight years by the Chinese government.
In the 1980s, President Ronald Reagan
stood up and renamed the street in front of the Soviet embassy ‘Sakharov Plaza’
after another wrongly imprisoned Nobel laureate.
Yet in the case of Dr. Liu Xiaobo
President Obama threatened to veto the Senate’s bill.
The American people and our
government need to take a stand against the Chinese government and its oppression
of simple human rights by supporting the bill to rename the street in front of
the Chinese embassy in Washington after Dr. Liu Xiaobo
