When fiction becomes fact: Aliens took over British television and left a message for the people of earth.

On the night of November 26, 1977,  service of Southern Television broadcast, which covered parts of southern England, was interrupted by a scratchy sounding voice claiming to represent the 'Ashtar Galactic Command', delivering a message instructing humanity to abandon its weapons so it could participate in a 'future awakening' and 'achieve a higher state of evolution. After six minutes, the broadcast returned to its scheduled program.

The six-minute message was from a male voice who claimed to be Vrillon, a representative of the Ashtar Galactic Command. It’s interesting that Vrillon had a British accent.

So was it the real thing?

No.

Simply put, Southern Television broadcast was hacked, and, apparently, it was relatively easy to do. Evidence showed that the transmitter of the Independent Broadcasting Authority had rebroadcasted the signal from a small, nearby unauthorized transmitter. The hoaxer, who was never identified, jammed the transmitter in North Hampshire by taking another transmitter very close to it
