Portrait of French writer Ernest Hello, 1898, Felix Vallotton

Hello (4 November 1828 – 14 July 1885) was a French Roman Catholic writer, who produced books and articles on philosophy, theology, and literature.

“The man who gives up accomplishes nothing and is only a hindrance. The man who does not give up can move mountains.”

“The Holy Bible is an abyss. It is impossible to explain how profound it is, impossible to explain how simple it is.”

“There are men who would quickly love each other if once they were speak to each other; for when they spoke they would discover that their souls had only separated by phantoms and delusions.”

“Art ... is a force which blows the roof off the cave where we crouch imprisoned.”
