We went through Frankfort Kentucky last year and I was surprised at how small it is, a couple of streets in the downtown area and that’s about it, surprising because it’s the state capital and county seat. Based on population, it’s the fifth smallest of the fifty state capitals. It’s interesting how the city got its name. In 1780, settlers to the area who were mining salt in a local ford (waterway) were attacked by a group local Indians and a pioneer named Stephan Frank was killed. From there in the place was called Frank’s Ford and later was hammered into Frankfort.
