The beginning of love is the will to let those we love be perfectly themselves,
“The beginning of love is the
will to let those we love be perfectly themselves, the resolution not to twist them
to fit our own image. If in loving them we do not love what they are, but only
their potential likeness to ourselves, then we do not love them: we only love
the reflection of ourselves we find in them.” Thomas Merton
Nobody ever became a writer just by wanting to be one.
“Nobody ever became a writer
just by wanting to be one. If you have anything to say, anything you feel
nobody has ever said before, you have got to feel it so desperately that you
will find some way to say it that nobody has ever found before, so that the
thing you have to say and the way of saying it blend as one matter—as
indissolubly as if they were conceived together.”— F. Scott Fitzgerald, in a letter to his daughter Scottie (1936)
To live this life to its fullest
To
live this life to its fullest, to be completely involved in our existence means
to continually start over again. It is the decision to experience each moment
as completely new and fresh which leads us to a life of intellectual and
personnel struggle by choice. To live the examined life is to be willing to die
over and over again.
Why is life worth living?
"Why
is life worth living? It’s a very good question. There are certain things I
guess that make it worthwhile. For me, I would say Groucho Marx, to name one
thing. And Willie Mays and the 2nd movement of the Jupiter Symphony and Louis
Armstrong, recording of Potato Head Blues. Swedish movies, naturally;
Sentimental Education by Flaubert. Marlon Brando, Frank Sinatra, those
incredible Apples and Pears by Cezanne. The crabs at Sam Wo’s, Tracy’s
face." Woody Allen
